7/30

This is a pretty quick update as not much happened this weekend. We finally got some heavy rain in the area and streams are just now coming down after being chocolate milk for a few days. Some of the streams up north were still in good shape however so we decided to fish for a few hours in the evening before walking in for a night of mousing. The first river we fished was up some from previous weeks and had some color to it. We nymphed, threw buggers, and even played around with a hopper or two with little success. I got two rainbows both under 11 inches and turned one decent brown on a streamer and that was it. After grilling some sausages, drinking a couple beers, and driving south a short ways we were at our mouse spot and found the parking lot to be empty. Long story short is we fished our tails off and didn't have much action. We each had a half hearted roll or two before Jeff finally latched into a fish around 2am. After a few head shakes the fish was gone and Jeff was stunned again. 20 minutes or so later I put our only fish of the night in the net. It wasn't a bruiser, but still a solid 16 incher.

And being released...

We fished one more run downstream without any love and decided to call it a night. It had been a lot slower than we expected but at least it wasn't a total bust. Not sure what this next week will have in store....possibly a week night trip or two and more than likely a smallie float this weekend.
